Many people think that college athletes should get but I would have to disagree with them. College athletes are at a school to get an education and play sports. A college is also attended by non athletes.
People think that we should be paying college athletes because they are risking career ending injuries to play. They think the get paid because if an amazing athlete gets hurt they could ruins their career in the professional league. This would cause them to lose a lot of money in the long run.
In a sense college athletes are getting paid though scholarships, living, books ect. Many of these athletes get to go to school free or on major scholarships. They are being paid with an education to some of the finest universities in the country. These athletes get to play the sport they love and get an education in the same place. They also tend to get discounts on books, living, meal plans. All of this adds up to thousands of dollars. They also get there traveling paid for when they play other teams
I think it is stupid to even think about paying college athletes. It would be so hard to determine who should get paid what. Should a football player be paid more than soccer? What about cheerleaders and dance teams ect. Also, schools do not have the kind of money to pay student athletes. Not every athlete is going to make it to the pros because they don’t have enough skill so why pay an average to bad player.
They are in college to have fun, get an education, and play sports.

There are legitimate arguments on the other side of this issue, so I wouldn't say it is completely stupid. Schools and coaches make millions of dollars on the basis of what high-level athletes do in the revenue sports. In that sense, I can see where some argue that certain athletes should get paid. However, given that the majority of programs do not turn a profit, there is no way that such a plan would be feasible.

ReplyDeleteI did a blog similar to this and I also agree that college athletes should not be paid. Once student-athletes start receiving benefits in monetary form, they will no longer be amateur athletes. I agree with this statement because if college athletes started to get paid then where really can u draw a line in the difference between college and professional. Overall I still feel that college athletes should continue to not get paid. People love to watch college sports because they aren't getting payed millions of dollars. There is still pureness in the game when money is not involved. Paying college athletes would change the whole dynamic of college sports!
